Bridgnorth, Shropshire – 30 April 2026 – Willowdene Rehabilitation and Education Centre was honoured to welcome The Duchess of Edinburgh for a special visit, recognising the organisation’s life-changing work with young people and adults.

The visit recognised Willowdene’s longstanding commitment to ensuring that every student, irrespective of birth or life circumstances, can access the tailored support, counselling, interventions and education they need to build independent, fulfilling futures.

Her Royal Highness was received at Willowdene Farm and welcomed by local dignitaries and senior representatives, before being introduced to Willowdene’s founders, Jennifer and John Home, who shared the organisation’s history followed by current directors, Sarah and Matt Home who discussed the ongoing and future vision.

During the visit, The Duchess toured key facilities across the site, including the Assessment Centre, Craft and Wellbeing Centre, and Carpentry and Joinery workshops, where Her Royal Highness met students actively engaged in vocational learning. The Duchess also observed innovative programmes delivered in partnership with local organisations, including employability and resettlement initiatives (Aico) and money management (Natwest) respectively.

A highlight of the tour included time spent on the working farm, where students demonstrated how practical activities, such as animal care, are used to teach essential life and numeracy skills. The Duchess also visited Willowdene’s residential facilities, gaining insight into the organisation’s holistic approach to rehabilitation and independent living.

The visit culminated in the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the visit, and recognising the transformative journeys made possible through the centre’s work.

The day was shared with students, families, staff, strategic partners, and supporters, highlighting the strong community that underpins Willowdene’s success.

Since 1988, Willowdene has remained dedicated to empowering individuals through therapeutic support, specialist interventions, education, and real-world skill development – helping them step confidently into the lives they were made for.
