Activities and Family Activities in Preston

Preston is a fantastic place to spend your time, offering a wide choice of things to do and see for all the family.

Whether you're looking for simple ways to enjoy your leisure time, alternative activities or traditional sports, Preston offers something for you and your family.

If you love walking and cycling, we have two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to conquer, including the majestic Pendle Hill, world renowned for the tale of the Pendle Witches. Following winding country lanes to farm parks and quirky shops; discover fascinating wildlife at nature reserves or disappear into the fells for a quiet afternoon stroll.

From historic links to Thomas Arkwright and the Industrial Revolution to those involving Preston North End, Sir Tom Finney and the Football League, there’s plenty to savour in Preston. Wander through Avenham & Miller Parks and Winckley Square to get a taste of the city centre’s green spaces, wildlife habitats and play areas. From there you can also head off around the Guild Wheel too, in a city boasting more than 160 miles of footpaths and bridleways. Alternatively, wallow in the Harris Museum’s monument to ‘Literature, Arts and Science’.

There’s much to marvel at the docks and marina as well, revitalized in recent years but no less historic, giving a further nod to that past heritage – from steam trains and boating to waterfront living, shopping, eateries, pubs and cinema.
