Smashed burger bar is expanding to northern Lancashire
A bar selling ‘the best ever’ burgers and cocktails is set to open in Lancaster after a Preston-based business owner revealed plans to expand.
Michael Evans, from Thornton-Cleveleys, opened Smashed – a burger and craft ale bar – in August last year in Miller Arcade, Preston. The food has been described as ‘unbelievable scran’ by one customer with another saying they were served the ‘best burger ever’.
Now, less than a year after launching the company, he has revealed he is set to open his second bar – this time in Market Street in Lancaster close to the Ye Olde John O’Gaunt pub. Michael told LancsLive he hopes the new venue will open by the end of July.
“There’s quite a lot of work to do but we’re hoping to open by the end of July or, depending on how quickly we get things done, the beginning of August,” he said. “We’ll hopefully be taking on around 10 or 12 staff.
n Preston we have about 14 between two sites but we’re expecting the bar in Lancaster to be much busier because of its location.”
Smashed is rated #1 of 356 restaurants in Preston on TripAdvisor, receiving a rating 5-stars overall following 104 reviews left by previous customers, although earlier this year Mr Evans was forced to hit out at some who had left negative reviews. In response to one customer who claimed that staff were ‘very pompous’ and blasted the food as ‘average’ Michael said: “We do state on our menu if there is an issue don’t be a keyboard warrior, please come and speak to us… we don’t bite… hard.”
Smashed Preston is open from Wednesday to Saturday from noon until 11pm or midnight with the Lancaster bar set to follow similar hours. It will be situated in what used to be Eat Indian which is now based in Penny Street.
