Lancashire Tea apologises to Preston for blocking city out on its packaging

The local tea brand has taken action to right their wrongs

Lancashire Tea has given an “unreserved apology” to the people of Preston for covering the city with a big red sign.

The popular tea brand, known for its Lancashire heritage, sells its tea bags in unique doodle style packaging. The box is covered with a novelty map of Lancashire including many of its cities.

Preston is a city known for it’s own trademarks and landmarks. The city features on the box but Prestonians spoke out about the “travesty” before them as their beloved home was covered by a red sign. One local Twitter account called out the company for its new design.

@Prestonphonebox posted: “#Preston we have a problem. Went to make a tipple of my favourite brew @LancashireTea and realised the city artwork by @DaveDraws_ has been wiped from the new box design with a dirty great label. Can this travesty be fixed?”

The hilariously snappy post soon caught the attention of fellow Preston accounts who were quick to like and share the post. Lancashire Tea was amongst the commenters who said in response: “Clearly we need to make a 2500 box in order to fit the entirety of Lancashire in!?”

@Prestonphonebox replied: “No need to go that far, just stick the big red label over Blackpool instead. Don’t forget it’s only a little place on the IOM anyway.”

But hours later, the tea company released it own post – a statement, apologising for the blunder in their own, comical way.

Posting in the comments, they said: “We’d like to formally offer an unreserved apology to the good people of Preston for covering over their historic city on our new packs.

“Lancashire Tea neither intended or wanted to cause any offence or throw upstanding Prestonians into an extesential quandary about which county they’re in.

“Although we may view the whole of Lancashire with somewhat rose-tinted glasses, it has become apparent a whacking great red stripe over the city was a step too far, especially considering Preston introduced us to KFC, the butter pie and the talents of Sir Tom Finney.”

The company confirmed they are “working on it” and reassured the tea drinkers of Preston that Lancashire Tea mug, does not cover the city.
