Fulwood cyclist Hugh Carthy is set to claim a surprise third place in the Vuelta a Espana.

Carthy outclassed his rivals on the legendary Alto de l’Angliru last Sunday (1 November) to take the biggest victory of his career so far.

A subsequent impressive time trial performance on Tuesday saw the EF Pro Cycling rider lay a stake for the podium.

Now, all being well, Carthy will secure third place tomorrow behind Primoz Roglic and Richard Carapaz.
