Police are stepping up patrols in response to disorder in Deepdale and Plungington since Saturday (12 June).

Additional stop and search powers are in place under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice & Public Order Act 1994 until 3am on Tuesday 15 June.

Extra officers have also been drafted in from elsewhere in the county to help protect the community.

Police say the disorder has been serious and involved the use of weapons, including machetes and bats.

A spokesperson for Preston Police said: “The incident is not believed to be a random or coincidental attack, and there is no suggestion that the wider public are at risk of attack. Suspects have been arrested, and charges brought.

“Section 60 is an extremely valuable tool that allows us to proactively target offenders and those carrying weapons in our community.

“We want to reassure you that we take these incidents extremely seriously and are dedicated to keeping you safe, as well as identifying and apprehending the perpetrators of crime.”
